Home Help/Domestic Assistance

Home help services include basic household tasks such as cleaning, cooking and shopping. Our Support Workers are able to undertake the light duties that you would usually carry out on a regular basis such as:

  • Washing/ironing
  • Cleaning bath, toilet and shower
  • Cleaning kitchen and white goods
  • Running errands
  • Meal preparation
  • Care of pot plants and pets
  • Vacuuming, dusting and polishing
  • Sweeping floors and paths etc and
  • Shopping.

We would work with you to identify and agree on which tasks will be performed, and how often, before we start to provide services.

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide spring-cleaning or heavy duty cleaning services such as:

  • Window washing
  • Moving furniture
  • Cleaning walls, light fittings or curtains
  • Changing light globes and smoke detector batteries and
  • Cleaning ovens.

Should you require spring cleaning services, please contact your Service Coordinator who will help you with arranging an alternative provider for these services.
Equipment & Products Required

Care Recipients, or their representatives, should ensure that Care Workers have access to the following items:

Equipment:

  • wet sponge
  • dry soft cloths
  • broom and dustpan
  • mop and bucket
  • vacuum cleaner
  • rubber gloves
  • apron
  • long handled toilet brush
  • dusting cloths

Products:

  • cream cleanser
  • disinfectants
  • furniture polish

Your help in providing products that are recommended by their manufacturer for laminate, porcelain, or other surfaces with special requirements, will help the Support Worker when working in your home.

Safety for all

Please note that for occupational health and safety reasons AHC does not allow our Support Workers to use the following items:

  • Abrasive cleaners ie. Exit Mould, bleach, Domestos
  • Corrosive chemical cleaners ie. methylated spirits, mineral turpentine
  • Abrasive cloths or Steelo-type scrub pads and
  • Chemicals that are not from their original bottle or container.

So that we are able to provide a safe working environment for both you, as the care recipient, and our Support Workers, it is the responsibility of the care recipient to:

  • Supply all recommended equipment and products
  • Maintain all equipment in a safe condition for use by the Support Worker and
  • Ensure that all rooms to be cleaned are uncluttered and accessible to the Support Worker.
