How we look after our Support Workers
When you become an Australian Home Care Support Worker, we'll make sure you have the skills, conditions and personal support you need to love your job, and to do it very well.
Training
The right training gives Support Workers the confidence to deal with any situation, and reassures care recipients that they're getting the best support.
Your career at Australian Home Care will begin with a thorough induction process. We also offer in-service training in supporting care recipients with specific conditions like acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury and dementia, giving you the opportunity to develop your skills in specialised areas.
Safety
We genuinely care about the safety of our Support Workers.
We'll carry out a pre-service safety assessment before you even set foot in a Care Recipient's home. All Support Workers are provided with residual current devices (safety switches) for use in care recipients’ homes to prevent electrocution.
We also provide extensive training in occupational health and safety, including a half-day ‘Back Attack’ course, to ensure you know how to use your body to prevent injury at work.
Our system is certified against AS 4801 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems: 2001. This ensures that our processes for keeping you safe are regularly assessed, they are effective, that you are consulted about issues that concern you, and that problems are resolved.
Communication
Your Service Coordinator will always be your first port of call.
But in emergencies, you can call us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and know that your call will be answered.
Because we operate over such a wide area, we are currently looking at improving how we communicate with our staff. We're looking at the use of SMS, email and the web to communicate instantly with our Support Workers, meaning you don't have to wait around for rosters and other crucial communications.
You'll have regular opportunities to get together with fellow Support Workers for forums and in-service training. And we'll send you a monthly newsletter ‘Working Together’ so you can keep in touch with what's going on in the organisation.
